  • Vray Dome light HDRI

If a HDRI image is placed on a Vray Dome light can you control the rotation of the HDRI by rotating the Dome Light on the Z axis in the viewport using the gizmo?

http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150S...les_lights.htm here it states that only in x and y does it have an effect.

So the only way to rotate the HDRI image along the z axis is via the horizontal rotation within the material editor?

For example I couldn't link a VraySun to the Dome light, so that when I rotate the VraySun on the z axis the HDRI map also rotates on the z axis.

Nope, for the moment this is not possible, although it is on the "to do" list.

I believe Peter Guthrie's excellent tutorial: http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/201...-sky-tutorial/ - is what you need.

He does show rotating the hdri image by rotating the vray dome light in the view port. Vlado can you comment on this? You mentioned that this is not currently possible. It has to be done via the horizontal rotation in the material editor.

Technically, you can link the horizontal/vertical rotation of the HDRI to the transformation of the light (through parameter wiring); I'm not sure if Peter did that.

Just to revisit this old topic! Just watched the following and thought the exact same thing - http://viscorbel.com/vray-hdri-lighting-tutorial/

Is it still the case that the rotation of the dome light in Z will not rotate the used texture? Of course you can link the rotation to the horizontal texture rotation, but I dont see why the dome light cannot do this as well? Maybe its not an easy thing to setup - whenever a VrayHDRI is used within a dome light, the rotation is auto linked.

We haven't gotten to that yet; we did it in Maya, so I hope that we'll be able to add it to 3ds Max soon.
