Thanks again for some great explanations Vlado.

Is there anyway to control the way the two sampling methods blend/overlap?? [With a falloff like Vray Dirt tex???] It appears to suffer the same problem as DE for IRRAD where you get a real strong transition between the high detailed sampling & the low detail sampling areas.

+1 for getting a smooth transition for Re-trace & also Detail Enhancement.

We could, but it's another knob to tweak and I'm not sure it will have much of an effect (for the retrace threshold at least).

      Best regards,
      Vlado

I just tested the DE a bit more & found that the transition seems to appear ONLY when the radius is quite low [eg.it shows up at 2cm but not at 10-20cm]

Awesome!! I never tried it with a larger distance & it seems to work much better that way.

        Thanks

Sorry, but I thought it was better to bump this than start a new thread.

I notice that with Brute Force as primary gi and Light Cache as Secondary GI that the depth for Brute Force is not considered(?), if this is indeed the case then if Retrace Threshold is activated does the depth then come into account?

It looks like the BF depth is not considered (otherwise you'd get a darker GI solution in corners and such).
