  • creata a section with your camera

today i tried to render a section through a building. i set the max camera tho orthogonal and set the far and near cut off planes to the correct distance. rendered fine with scanline.

then i switched the renderer to vray and then it just renders black..

tried it with disabel the max shade blabla but it still does not work.

    any suggestions??

maybe the camera settings are not correct decribed here, cause i use the german version of max and don´t know all translations..

    regards

Ive been searching all week on a way to do cross sections of multiple objects and as Natty stated ScalpelMAX is your best bet. Its the only one where you can use 1 or many clipping planes and maintain caped holes on the oblects. To give you an idea Ive actually just orderd ScalpelMAX today for a current project I have to do cross sections of. Also there is squat for info on the web and the best I had found was a kind of tutorial/demo video at http://www.trinity3d.com

      Hope that helps a little,

      [edit]

Heres a direct link to the plugin, have a look at the demo movie.

If it's not too complex, another option is to use a Slice modifier and put a Cap Holes on top of it.

well, as is works perfectly with scanline, i think its a vray related problem in this case ..

i think you will find its the same sort of reason that you cant render wire objects or wire materials.

i did a kind of simple woraround: i just moved the camera 1500 meters away from the object. slice planes work fine now and its more or less orthogonal..

if you uncheck the orthographic switch it will work as it works in scanline for me. The the ortoghrapic view maybe simulated with some camera tuning.
