  • Timber floor material

    Hi y'all

Does anyone have a good timber boarding texture they'd be willing to share? I've searched everywhere for one but they just don't come up to scratch.

What I'm after is that Ikea/Habitat maple flooring, or similar - something that can be used in large areas without tiling.

    Thanks in advance!

Have you ever tried making a floor out of a brick material with a wood texturen on the bricks ?

I use it a lot and it really looks great.

Check suurland's site - he has a freebie texture that I think fits your description. Look for his freebie section. http://www.suurland.com

          Yeah, Erik is right.

Brick material is very useful for that...

You can use bricks for a lot more than just bricks. You can also use it to make pavements or kitchen/bathroom tiles or metal wall panels with only vertical or horizontal lines.

I used them with a large bump amount but now that i have vray advanced i'm gonna use displacement mapping a lot more.

Give it a try it really works.

How do you deal with the wood grain when you use the brick material?

I must be doing something wrong, when I apply a wood material to the brick slot, the wood pattern covers the entire floor. The brick material only applies the seems and shading variations to the size chosen. It looks strange to me. A wood floor has different grain patterns in each piece of wood that makes up the floor. Tiling the wood doesn't look right either.

I use the brick material for many different things a well, but I never tried to use it for a wood floor.

Any help would be appreciated. The idea is great, but I can't get it to look real.

                  Hi Tony,

Maybe you are a bit more critical about a wooden floor than i am, but i tile the wood bitmap to fit one or two planks of the floor and stretch it out a bit. With color variation it looks like there are different planks on the floor.

I guess that if you want your floor to look very realistic you could do better with a large floor bitmap.
