what is causing these strange artifacts?????

  • #2
Its hard to say without more info.

Looks like something is not right with irradiance map. Perhaps make sure you are not accidentally using a saved irradiance map which was computed from another angle.

Do you get the artifacts if GI is turned off?

For troubleshooting purposes, make sure its running in Single Frame mode and turn off Switch to Saved Map if its on.

Try Direct Computation GI mode to see if it goes away.

        Perhaps Coplanar Faces?

Yep, looks like you have coplanar faces on your objects.

To me it looks more like the smoothing group problem on poly objects.
I have this quit a lot.
For example: create a chamfer Box with smooth enabled. Convert it to poly mesh and render. If you subidivid it gets better, but still smoothing seams to be a troublemaker to Vray... Oh, if you want I can give you some more examples...

if you are using an older version of vray, 1.09.03g fro example, i found that it had problems dealing with editable poly objects when they were build a certain way.

So if you were using an earlier version (it appears fixed in recent builds) and your object was edit poly then that could be the problem, if you still have the file, try collapsing it to edit mesh and render again.
