I ve been playing around with QMC sampler latelly, and for better understand it effect IMHO I think its better to start playing with a interior scene. Start with a amout of 1.0 and noise 1.0 with samples 5 and you notice that there are a lot of black holes.
Every time that we decrease the amount, the irradiance map tends to get less holes, and it can be also helped increase of min samples until it cover get a irradiance map that cover all the, that seems a very good base to start a interior scene without any artifacts. The noisy amount controls the amount of noise you want in the irradiance map.
This doesnt not increse the GI detail, but control the overall quality, to get a better GI detail you will need to start playng with irradiance map settings.

I hope I could explain it better, but I also a bit confused how and when I should stop playing with the settings.

Hmm this is a good point.
Otherwise why I menetioned because on simple outdors you can get amazing speed imrpovements generally without visible quality loss.

In indoors even a slight increase (except min samples) are immadiately responds in artifacts, psots etc, but This I didnt think to use to remove balck areas near corners in interiors by increasing min samples. Great Tip!
