  • what GI combo is better?????

    Hi,
I'm new to vray so I was trying to wrap my head around all these settings/tutes/help files ...etc
One thing (one of many ) that isn't clear is what are usually good combinations of GI engines for interiors and exterior arch renderings?

it seems that irradiance map is the most popular for the primary GI calculation , but for secodary calc. is it better direct computention or global photon map??

    thanks for any help!

    Paul.

i tend to use direct, because i havent got to grips with photons yet and i believe photon mapping needs a bit of setting up

so does direct on the secondary give you more precise GI in indirect areas??.........I used to use QMC (direct) and photon maps in Brazil and it used to speed up the whole thing but it wasn't too precise.....
is that similar in VRAY ??

      thanks,

      paul.

I dont know Brazil photon map, but you can have an idea how it works with Vray here http://www.vrayrender.com/stuff/PMapTutorial/

Indeed direct is easier to set up, but photon maps also seem to give good result with faster calculation times, but you need to tweak some more settings to get it right.
