  • What about Vray Material ?

    Hi all !

Does anyone have news about new Vray material ?

I mean, I know that Chaos team has proposed the SDK to help
in programming new Vray materials in C++.

    Does anyone help ?
Is there any project about it ??
It would have been interesting to know anything about it...

I've read that Max 6 proposes a new material "physicly correct".
    What's that, exactly ?
Can we imagine that Vray could give the same or more ?

    Thank you !
    Bye !

    Hi

Somewhere here in the forum there is a basic Beta version for a very simple but fast Vray Glass glossy and a version for a (dont know the english name) frosted? glas.

but it is only a frontend script putting together some of the allready existing parameters of the existing Vray material.

    Hmm. Physicaly correct.

That would bee good. I dont know the concept why peter and Vlado decided to put the Gi multiplier into the Object settings. In realworld "GI"behaviour depends on the material. and what is about multiple materials on one object ? So if they would make a future Vray material with the Gi parameters put into the material, it would be more ralistic i think.
But there are also oather things to think about. What is about real reflections scale parameters like used in max. and maybe while reflections of materials are never pervect difuse a possibility to put in physicaly correct datas for this like in some specialisced light planing programms.

Why this. first it sounds more technical. but at last you would be much faster making a easy scene setup. just posing a real sun with about 80000 lux, a real lamp with about 500lux and realworld behaving materials and thats it. The only thing that would last would be a perfect exposure control, correctley transmitting the correct energy to the way people see such energie.

ps. the material max 6 uses is the same presetmaterial they used in previous lightscape versions and for the Viz version comming with Architectural desktop 4. it is very easy to use but still absolutly not realworld, while to the nature of radiosity it can only work with absoluteley diffuse reflections.

wow long text. But every time i´ve got the possibility, i have to vote for the implementation of realworld parameters, and not something like 1,2 ore 5 in for example the light parameters, noone knows what this would be in realworld.

Vray still the best Raytracer, also when it is not so complete like Brazil.

      Hi tom !
      Thanks for the reply.

Well, nothing then concerning a Vray material study in C++.
I think as you say , it is very technical and so, not easy to realize.

If I could program in C++ I would have liked to do something in.
But I just use Max Script, quiet easy and stong enough to do interesting
things but not for treatting this kind of subject.

I would like to encourage Chaos programmers to make Vray working
better, faster and with an easy handling.

I agree with you, Vray is a very good renderer, yes !

      Bye !
