  • making objects which dont affect GI at all...

    Hey there -

I want to mount an environment on a freestanding cylinder in a scene I'm making. However, even with the "generate" and "receive" options turned off, my object seems to be radically affecting the overall GI solution for the scene --- darkening it considerably.

Is there a way to just plunk an object in a scene without blocking light in the scene??

two ways you could try are to calculate the gi with out the object and save the imap, then plop the object back in an render using the saved I map.
The other is to use the material wrapper.
Two heads are better than one ...
....but some head is better than none.....

      Hey --

I like that first option better. Elegant and no learning curve required!!

        What render faster?
        1. to use exclude objects from GI based on objects
        or
        2. to use the vray wrapper to exclude from GI based on materials?

my experience is that the materialbased exclusion is easier to use and imho faster... do you see it the same way?

working with the material is more streamlined .. i wish the vraymtl have that option too...
