  • OpenEXR vs Color Mapping

Does anybody has tried to save an image as OpenEXR and adjust the exposure with some software (photoshop?) able to open that kind of file?
If so, wich software is able to do this?

you can save a file to hdr too, and then adjust it with hdrshop.

this is what i couldnt do for some reason... even if i put the Unclamped color g-buffer and save it as .hdr. When i open the file in Hdrshop it seems like the image doesnt have high dynamic range...

      can someone guide me.

just underexpose it and you will see how high the range of the 64bit output can be.

you can't make it darker; you only can make it brighter...

          Hi there,

Saving as HDR, EXR, or RPF and than using the high dynamic range for exposure control works great !!

Some things you have to take care of.
The color mapping must be linear !
Saving from the framebuffer will not work !
(Always define a save file before rendering)

Unluckily Photoshop is still not able to read these formats (shame on you !!)

But it works great with Digital Fusion.
          (Combustion should work, too)

Also take care of Vray´s "adaptive antialiasing"
If you plan to dramatically light up you scene with this exposure
technic, you better take the simple antialiasing.

          cheers

samuel, you are right.. AA is a pain with hdr images...

btw, is there any way to save a rendering to photoshop lab mode?
I think this would be a alternative to hdr...

Well I don´t know if there´s a way to save it to some LAB format...

but it wouldn´t really change anything as long as photoshop is unable
to handle 32bit formats. (Pah.. and that 16 bit photoshop thing is a joke)
alternatively you could use HDRShop with it´s standard exposure
(shift +/-) or with the tonemapping plugin.... you can download it here

              cheers

i wish, (maybe in the new VFB) we will be able to change the exposure in Max after we render from VRAY.

If you use this Photoshop plugin you can open .exr but it will be only 16 bit as was mentioned. http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/...-Win32-1.0.zip

Also a Mac version and some .exr sample images here. http://savannah.nongnu.org/files/?group=openexr
