  • irradiance map and AA

is it faster to calculate the irradiance map first without AA, then save the map and render the image in a second step with the saved irradiance map and AA?

or does AA donĀ“t effect the irradiance map calculation?

Yes, render your irrandiance map with AA set to -4,-4.

      I tend to disagree..

If you're aiming to save your irradiance and only your irradiance.. then yes, it is faster to just have the image off (new checkbox) or have -4/-4 (oldway).. mainly an advantage with animations where you can get away with less frames..

For still images, its no matter.. the Image sampler doesn't come in to play until AFTER the lighting calculations are done..

Basically, depends on what you're doing

my question was for high resolution stills.

i always wonder why people say that they render with -4/-4 first but now i see that it must be for animations.

        thanks

          Yes, that's for animations.
And also, the -4/-4 method has been made redundant now that we have the new checkbox in the Global Switches rollout that lets us skip the rendering pass.

That is odd, could you please give me some direction to where the rendering pass check box is.

            Thanks,

            S.

What's so odd? He said it is new. Update to the latest version and you will have it.

Note that setting the AA rate to -4/-4 can consume *a lot* of RAM; it would be best to use -2/-2 or even better - the new option in the latest builds.
