  • VRay.info material collection beta - new version posted

    Hi guys,

I just uploaded the 0.7beta version of the materials. This version includes the start of the carpaint material too.

    Feedback needed!

Sorry Timmy - it's Max 5.1 scene. ----edit---*.3ds taken down for webspace - sorry---

Here are the mats I used:

---edit---images taken down for websoace - sorry----

Ground plane uses VRay mat with diffuse 156,156,156 (grey).
My max environment is 256,256,256 (pure white).

No GI turned on. Just a VRay light with multiplier 40.0, color: 256,256,256, and 20 subdivs.

        Caustics on -
        Multiplier: 1.5
        Search Dist: 100.0
        Max Photons: 600

under system tab, light settings, vray light has 1200 subdivs.

That's it Timm. Play around with the mats. Props go to egz!!

          Xavier

thanks for all the help, but I was talking about egz's materials. It looked like the installation worked when i dragged it into the viewport, but have now idea how to get the new materials to show up in the editor.

supposed to work with ViZ4 right?

hehee...you made me type all that?? just kidding.

Make sure you delete the older version maybe. You have only to drag and drop the mzp file. Restart viz. Check mat editor - they should be there. Any other problems ask egz.

              SORRY!

Its weird though, I didn't even have the previous version installed before this one.

              EGZ - any thoughts?

                egz:
                Awesome mats, thanks for sharing.

Any chance of making a water shader, one in which you can control the color of the murky water, and the reflectivity...that would be awesome!!! So you could either have clear tropical island water or murky green harbour water.

Here is a little test using a top bottom shader, with the wax in 1 slot and the red carpaint in the other...looks weird the way it turned out. Also for some reason the wax material doesnt work is you put it in a blend map, for instance a blend map with wax and carpaint, and a checker mat for the mix map. The carpaint shows up but the wax is completely black.

                  Hello
Thanks for the materials Egz !
I have some problems with carpaint and vraylight material though ... ?
I am using vray Adv10903m40 and max 4.2.
This happens when I doubbleclick on the those materials. Retry and canel crashes max.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys!

timmatron: I don't have viz, so I can't test it myself. The previous version did work though. Check if there is a folder called egzMaterials in your scripts\startup\ directory. If not try installing again. Also, just to be sure you are looking for the materials in the right place: Click the button that says Standard or VRayMtl, and select the materials from the list.

DaForce: A water material sounds like a good idea! I'll check out the blend issues. Make sure the wax material is well illuminated though.

owiik: Maybe this is related to max4.. I don't have it installed so I can't test that. maybe someone else can try them out in max 4?

Just installed them. Man you're the greatest! That Vray didn't have these kind of materials was the only thing I didn't like about Vray compared to fR and Brazil. Now you made Vray complete.

Yes could someone test the materials in max4.

the water shader sounds cool. I tested vlados water material that he posted once and modified it a little. It would be nice to get that white foam on the tops too.

this is a test I did this weekend. Needs a lot of tweaking still though...

(something like this would be nice: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php...ight=submarine

                            egz:
Yeah a water material would rock!!!
About the blend dealy, it only happens when combining carpaint and wax or atleast the wax because extremely dark. I used your sample scene so lighting shouldnt be an issue. See below for sample images.

                            Wax

                            Wax & Glass

                            Wax & Carpaint
                            Wax not working...or very dark

Wax & Carpaint with vraylight mulitplyer @ 50
At this point it does seem to be working....but jeez..so much light.

                            Wax and Vraymtl with reflections

                            Carpaint & Glass

I think this could be easily fixed by having a light multiplyer for the wax material so that you can increase the amount of absorbed light. Thus making the wax brighter (but you know that already)

                            Anyway hope this helps.

                            owiik:
Looking good...you could use a top/bottom material so that you could get certain foam at the peak of the wave....(if that makes sense)

DaForce: thanks for the tests. I think what we are seeing is the carpaint blocking out light, while the glass is actually letting light into the wax.

I'll add a wax multiplier in the next version
