I'm having trouble rendering big scenes with vray using max 4.2. The scene is currently a little over 2 million polys and will probably be higher once it is finished. Basically max just fast exists or I get a vray error. Please let me know if anyone is having similar problems and how they possibly could be fixed.

I am having similar problems, it appears i can render with certain geometry hidden, then when I unhide all it crashes out without warning.I've tried collapsing geometry to single objects etc withoout any real success. It appears vray has a limit to the geometry it can handle.
Anyone else?????

just a couple of threads about high poly issues and geometry creation methods like in instanciate.
it seems as though it is usually a case of RAM consumption. i havent personally had any problems with this b/c most of the stuff i do is single product studio renders, but hopefully there is some info there that will help.

I cut down the bigger objects to under 10,000 polys and it seemed to help. However, when I added more geomtry later it did the same thing. So I tried rendering the scene a machine with a little more ram and it seemed to do the trick. (1st machine had 1gig and the second 1.5) I also used instancing on the second machine and for now its working. Thanks, for the help.Phil Van Haitsma
