  • Animation Freeze

I'm having a problem with an animation. I'm attempting to render 2000 frames and after a random numbers of frames have rendered, it freezes up (see screen shot). I can shut the rendering dialog down and even click on some of the buttons on the interface but the view port is blank. I was rendering single frames, not saving the map and then I tried another animation cycle, attempted to save the map every 9th frame but after a random number of frames, Max would crash and pull a disappearing act. I'm assuming there is something in the file that vray does not like. Perhaps it's corrupted some how. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Scott.

    Check your CPU temperature.
Overheating would cause strange things like this. I know it did here this summer before I got a couple extra casefans.

Thanks for the reply. My gut feeling is it may have something to do with the file. If this is the case, no vray animation for me. I guess I will resort to a Max animation. I may try some test to see if it is specific pieces geometry that could be causing it. I have had geometry issues in the past that would cause problems, rendering not animation.

Well, It just froze up on another file as well. This is something new. One thing I found odd, did you take a look at the vray build of mine. It's 1.09.03n. The latest build on the web site is 'm'. Doesn't 'n' come after 'm' ?

n is a quick fix for the m build.

I really think you should check your CPU temperature, just to be sure, if it is hanging on more than one file. Overhating symptoms typically show up when rendering animations after long periods of 100% CPU load.

The last freeze up was different this time. It accrued during a single test render not an animation. I've been using Vray for a couple of months and this is the first time this sort of thing has happened. Now, does that make it more confusing? It does for me.

                Thanks,

                S

sounds more and more like overheating

open your case...clean all the dust out of all the fans and heat sinks

it is possible that your processor fan is dying...AMD just replaced mine because it was faulty

I must agree with the other gents, check that temp.

If that is not it try culling the scene down one section at a time and
send a test. Perhaps you could narrow down where any offending
objects might be. Not the most time friendly method but I had to do
it quite a bit back in the Max 3 and 4 days with large files.
