Having a good environment for the chrome to reflect is 90% of the look. Try setting up some whitecards, a groundplane, walls etc. in the scene itself.
The last 10% is tweakig the material. Create a highly reflective VRayMtl, and use fresnel reflections with a high IOR. Somehwere between 16 and 20 should do it.Torgeir Holm | www.netronfilm.com

And choose a dark diffuse color (near black)

try somthing like that:
i rendered an spherical enviroment of an empty room with some "windows" and use it as enviromentmap in a vraymtl.

yes, metals also have fresnel falloff in their reflections. However their IOR is much higher, so the effect is very subtle. High IOR values like in chrome are almost equivalent to no fresnel at all, but only almost.Torgeir Holm | www.netronfilm.com

see the difference between the left box (flat faces and hard edges) and the right box.
It's a kind of rule for me to make things looking more realistic. I use beveled edges to get specular hilights on the edges and the same works with reflection maps. ..btw, in nature you will find mostly round edges.. i don't know how i could name it, but you eye is trained to see that difference on renderings.

Thats true, but sometimes in nature, the rounded edges are so small, that is seems they are sharp, so many people tend to give these a sharp edges......
.....sad thing is that when you give an edge 1mm radius and you render this from further distance you dont see any highlight. In the real world you can see every scecular highlight, even the tinyest.....
but I guess its only because of the monitor resolution that we dont see these in the renderings.....
