Just a tip - A scene with standard mats will render 25 - 50 % slower than the same scene with all vraymtl's

      thanks rerender, for the heads-up.

      paul.

EDIT: although I have to say that standard mats seem easier to use then vray mats in some cases...

        re

cocolas....what type of material do you use when you have an object that is self-illuminated?

A standard map is probably the best way to do an object light, and to clarify the speed increase is from a scene with all standard mats compared to all vraymtl's. One or two standards maps will not have the impact of several unless they comprise most of the scene. Also remember that photons only work with vraymtls.

yeah, like rerender said...it'd be a standard w/ an output map in the diffuse channel:
the amount (in the output settings) sets the amount of energy emited..duh

you want the RGB level blown out (above 1)

also in the main material you want your self illumination 100%.......

if you need a glowing look , you can add a blur render effect to the object ...

Ahhhhh...in the light of a new day, its easy to feel silly about how one acted the night before. So i apologise for my attitude yesterday to the forum and RErender mostly. I was incredibly frustrated, but thats no excuse. So sorry guys, i didnt mean to vent in here. But hey, at least it makes interesting reading....

              Right, back to work!

              Regards,

              Marc

I often say "this would be the perfect job, if it wasn't for the clients..." and deadlines suck too. No worries.
