I haven't got an answer but rather another question.

When I use/d electricimage, www.konkeptoine.com had many proceedural textures/materials that would do the trick. eg check out their "woodlab" shader.

Does anyone know of a resource where proceedural textures/materials that have been specifically built for MAX can be found.

would love to get my hands on a rock texture or a random cloud generator that would create non repeating textures.

I prefer more to scan a real veneer. Procedural wood looks pretty bad....there is an excellent site with tileable wood textures though...

      http://perso.club-internet.fr/lemog/...tal_divers.htm

They have almost hundred wooden tileables... good quality, but still from a further distance you can see certain "patern"....

I usually scan the veneer at 300 dpi (600 preferably) and manualy "glue" certain parts together on the computer.

The more detail the texture is more real final image looks....

Now I remember using Corel Texture maker that makes excelent tileable wooden textures as well as textures of a size that you define...maybe check that out as well.....

      Post some of your results

      Regards

thanks for the tips.. i ahve a question, what do u mean by take parts of the texture and gluing them manually? i generally scan a wooden texture but find that if it has a gloss on it the scanner leaves over exposed lines on the scanned image i then take it into photoshop and make it tileable using the offset function and then blend the seem marks i just find once u place it on an object it looks very repetitive any suggestions? i will try corel texture creator we have corel here at work maybe we have that to...
        thanks a million

they have a great database of high resolution images, and you don't have to sign up, to access the site.
