  • Thinking of buying Vray...

When you purchase a copy of Vray Advanced and say a few weeks or months down the road a new version say P or Q comes out, do you get to upgrade for free or do you have to pay to upgrade?

    Curious how this works....

    Thanks in advanced

Is there an expected release date for 1.1...wondering if I should wait to buy or not

            dave,
you start sounding like the guys at ID software when talking about releasing the next Quake or DOOM - "when its done"
            hahaha....

heh dont you mean "3D Realms" they keep saying that about the next Duke (cant remember the name anymore). Funny though I cant see that one ever being released with them changing engines every couple months.

you mean DOOM III ??? - yeah, it was due this summer i guess - obviously it didn't happen....sometimes next year - will see.
however i was REALLY looking foward towards Half Life 2 - till those dumb fuc*ers hacked it - now till April ....damn it.
the thing is, there is always good games coming out - Halo for PC /tron 2.0 and others......

I wonder what would happen if all of us on the forum put our heads together and came out with our own 1st person. Would we spend all our time tweaking images and missing deadlines? Attempt to get Vray HDRI/GI working between the characters and the scenes?

I personally think it would crash most people's systems- cannot render, out of memory. max will now close- do you want to try to save a current copy of the scene?...

speaking of missing dealines, I can't wait anymore for the new counter-strike. has been way too long in the making... all these examples makes vrays deadlines pale in comparison. just be at least happy knowing that someone out there is attempting to make a better product for you. I think 99% people here are not complaining- just wishing...

No I was talking about Duke Nukem Forever - it has been "delayed" for the past, I think its been about 4 years. So on that I dont feel so bad about Doom III or HL2, yet but at least they are sticking to there own engines. [rant] I still have some faith that Doom III and HL2 will get released in a few months but as for 3D Realms, if they ever do get the new Duke released the odds of my buying it are slim to none because if the company at all is reflected in the games quality I dont want that kinda of crap on my box [/rant]

yeah I agree w/ you on Duke - but never been much of a fan of it....
right now I'm split between Halo for PC and GTA Vice City - good stuff!!

                      hehehe....

that would a be a huge undertaking....I'm programing a 2d scroller game right now in macromedia Flash (the game it's like the classic 2d space shooters - Defender/Tyran 2000 and the like) , and even that it's a bi*ch....lot's of lines of code and bug squashing - and you'd think it's only 2d....

                      anyway better stop ranting now

point is i agree with suurland on this. why wait. get a great product now. you wouldnt want to miss out. I was one of the 1st beta testers a loooong time ago and when vray went 1.0 i didnt have the money for it then. was painfull having to use the demos when the real thing was just a credit card away hehehe. but a few months after 1.0 when i did get it it was the most glorious thing to have and its been an awsome trip down the road with vray and all my vray buddies. i tip my hat to all the guys who have gone down this cool road and hve done so many awsome images. Time for me to catch up now seeing as how im now using vray in production

Chaos should make a deal with people who buy vray after a certain point, that they will get the upgrade sent to them for free. It only makes sense if the new version is right on the horizon. It's just my take on that...

Um I think thats already in place, If you buy V-Ray up to 1.1 you should get 1.1 for free with your purchase.
