  • Image Quality

I've been playing with both the Free version and the demo and can not seem to get the sharpness and clarity of many of the images I see posted here. It looks pretty good in the vfb, but when I save it and open it it is all blurry. Using Vray mats & lights.

What settings should I be looking at to improve? I've tried irradiance map settings etc. and still no luck.

if it looks good in the vfb - then there is no reason why it shouldnt look good as a file - save as png or tiff for lossless compression

      Maybe..........

Maybe you have the gamma value set to 1.8 (preferences panel) or something else to output images it gives to the saved images a whashout color and brightness!!

I hope you'll get the best from VRAY !

      bye

If you are saving out of 3ds max using jpg format, then don't. As mentioned, save as TIF or TGA or PNG instead.

        Max's jpg encoding is crap.

You guys nailed it. Adjusted gamma and tried tif.

Dejavu - after this experiment to say the jpg encoding is crap is an understatement.

Consistently the best work I've seen is Vray and that's why I'm here. Great board too. Thanks a lot. I will post when I feel worthy.

When it comes to converting images to JPEG, I always use JPEG Imager. It is a great program that supports not only JPEGs but also PNGs and GIFs.
