vray mat or 3ds max mat?

Hi im just wondering if some one could answer what the different is in vray mat and 3ds max mat when you render with vray (except from 3ds max raytrace mat). why should i preffer one or the other?

because its much faster for example. Probably there are some other advantages. I mean vray material.

Losbellos is right, it is faster especially for reflections/refraction.

It is also easier to accurately mimic real world effects like fresnel reflections, IOR and translucency with a VRay material. Also, if you ever want to use photon mapping it only works with VRay materials.
