  • High poly count scenes

Just looking for some general info on how one would deal with a fairly high poly count scene, up around the 20 mil poly mark and around 900 lights.
So far ive just been using a lot of x ref's and instances, but is that all you can do?
Also is max 6 better at handling high poly scenes now?
And last question, what would you reccomend for the raycaster params?

The scene im working on at the moment is a car chases scene through a lot of streets and tunnels, ive all ready split the storyboard up as much as i can, and want to try and be able to make it with only the gig of ram i have here.

      hey Chris_Jones

Try the /3GB switch for Windows, so that the os can allocate more than the std 2gb to a process. For my normal Poly-count scenes i usually turn the face/level coef. in the raycaster parameters down a bit (about 0. and the max tree depth up. (~62) With these settings Vray renders faster but consumes more memory. Maybe you can reverse these values so that the process is less memory consuming but it should render slower.

1gig ram for a 20mio poly scene is not much, maybe think about getting some more?

      Maybe this helps. Good luck!
