  • Will Vray have DOF, post, bloom and glare features like NOX ?

I thought this was very interesting and gave great results:

ox blows vray bloom and glare out the water in my opinion. The extra features of DOF in post and the fact you can do all the light control etc as part of the renderer makes me wonder why Vray isn't heading in this direction. I realise that PDplayer is capable of giving some of the light control. To be able to do it all in one package would be fantastic.

There are enough options for doing post-DOF, motion blur, bloom/glare, and light blending, much better than we can ever hope to do, so this has not been our focus for the moment.

As for the V-Ray bloom/glare, there are improvements planned for the next update (ability to apply them only to parts of the scene as well as performance improvements). Otherwise, from what I can see, it's exactly the same as said Nox renderer.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

i was thinking about this while watching the Nox videos. it doesnt seem very good (yet) as a renderer, but as a post tool, it's very interesting. the addition of a threshold value, at the very least, would be very welcome in the vray lens effects. the performance improvements too.

Really liked that DOF preview for the zdepth pass though - that would be a nice addition to Lenscare etc.

Yeah, it's not so stylish, but does the same thing.

the point is not that you can get same results with xyz package. The point is that NOX does it ALL in one. From a software sales point, that is very attractive

Well, it's free... so no sales point But I agree that it is convenient from a user's point of view.

Can you use NOX features on an imported Vray render (with zbuffer)?

Have to agree with this. The gallery section is impressive in my opinion, and the extra control in one package is what it a good all round package. I would love it if vray had these extra features... I haven't tested it in terms of speed yet but the results are good.
