  • Caustics multiplier

    Why is there an option to adjust the intensity in the caustics roll-out as well as in the Vray properties of the light? Is there any advantages in using one over the other?

      When using inverse square for the spot light. I have set the multiplier to 80000.0. Which really burns out my caustics. So I set the caustics multiplier to 0.04 to get an OK result. Is this to be expected? If you don't use inverse square it seems the multiplier needs to be cranked up really high to get good caustics.

        In addition to setting the decay to inverse square, you need to set the Start for the decay to 1.0 (in generic units, not display units). Then the caustics intensity will match the actual illumination produced by the light.

          Ah ok thanks Also, I have read some tutorials that tell you to make sure transparent shadows are used for caustics. Is this so that the caustic effect is not blocked by the shadow?
