  • VRayLight - Specular vs Reflection

    Hi all

So whats the difference between the "Affect specular" and the "Affect reflections"?

Isnt the specular actually just the reflection, so it's the same thing?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

The specular is really only a fake representation of the physical light source. The reflection itself is a real reflection of the physical light source.
So to go 100% photoreal, you shouldn't use any speculars at all. Although they can be useful sometimes (with low-gloss materials like concrete), I tend to turn them of in the material, especially when doing glass, water, chrome etc.

    So, to conclude:
Affect specular = the light source will generate a specular to be visible in your objects.
Affect reflections = the area light will be visible in the reflections of your objects.
