Lessen reflections

I have a plane with an image placed behind my camera to create a realistic reflection in my windows, but the reflections are coming out way too clear. How can I make the reflections somewhat transparent to make them look more real? Changing the reflection color from white to black just lessens the amount reflected. I want to "soften" the reflections and make them somewhat transparent.
