none of our renders exceeded 6 hours a frame though, usually around 3-4 hours.

I was hoping for less than 30 minutes a frame at 720p

we render everything at 2048x1556, so perhaps at 720 it would be about half the time.

Wait - 3-4 hours with what kind of cpu power behind it?

ok so with Morbid Angel's method I got renders that looks PERFECT! Very smooth and extremely clean. BUT, it takes extremely long. Or at least it did on the scene I tried. I tried with my most problematic scene ever. It's a night exterior animation with the building having many vraylights and vrayIES lights inside the building. Outside I have standard spots as uplights under the trees and hedges. This scene has given me many headaches due to extremely long render times, no matter what I do. At 720p the quickest frame is about 45 minutes, and then it still ever so slightly flickers here and there. With Dmitry's method, it's smooth, but I'm looking at about 5 or 6 hours per frame. Then again I tried it with my home quadcore (only 4 threads). At work I have 8 cores so it may be little quicker. I tried with samples on 64 and it's very clean. Will try with 128 to see if it's any quicker, but I don't see how it will be
                Kind Regards,

well, many lights and especially ies lights will create some serious grain. I do not know how it is now with ies lights but it used to be quite grainy, much like using image maps in side vray lights. If you can perhaps trying to make those lights store with irradience map, could help clean it up, if you are using irradience that is.

yes the 45 minutes with some grain and slight flicker was with my settings and IRMap. The 5 Hours was with your settings and Brute Force. (I set materials and lights to 64 subdivs) and I set Brute Force on 64 subdivs also.

That scene is particularly problematic. The project is long gone done and dusted, I just sometimes like to refer back to it in an attempt to figure out why it's so much different to any of my other scenes. I'm very happy with the clean results from your settings. Was just hoping for not such long render times. When I have a moment I'll try it with 32 divs and also 128 divs, and see how it compares to the 64 divs, both in quality and in speed.
                    Kind Regards,
                    Morne
