  • animation IR frameblending question

    hi
i'm working on a arch interior animation with moving objects. so i will render the IR prepasses (animation prepass) for each frame and then blending 5 together for one frame. so far i understand i can use pretty low settings for the IR, because they get blended together and will be theoretical 5 times better in resolution than a single one.
if im wrong so far please correct me

so the point is that it takes pretty long to render a single beauty pass. is there any technique or idea i should get used to it to speed things up for my beautypasses?
because i really cant imagine it should take that long. so i'm pretty sure im doing something wrong or at least not quite right

i orientated myself on this tutorial, which i found a bit more simple to get along with than the chaosgroup one. or at least it made me understand things a bit more.

    thanks for that to mintviz!

      Hi,

      Glad you like the tutorial

You can use lower interp. samples on the final render but you will need them higher when doing the animation prepass. What are your render times? what sort of scene are you rendering, lots of glass and glossy materials? Without knowing this its hard to determine if your render times are high or not.

        hi, thanks for joining in

i guess this was the input i needed to hear to bring my testings to the next level. it isn't that glossy and glassy in my interior but i got some curtains with an overwrite mat and some nice and nifty little detailed borders which are a spot for some blotches.
subdiv/interpolation i got nice result for a single frame with 60/40, which i think is a bit enougth interpolation althou. but how low may i decrease the parameters for the anim rendering by a blending of 2? im doing this the first time so i really rely on others experience and would be glad for some values. is 16/5 too low or is it worth a try?

In regards to the irradiance map its really about what you can tolerate for your render. I have written a detailed explanation about the irradiance map here http://www.mintviz.com/blog/vray-ren...sualisation/#8

For the prepass basically HSph subdivs control the quality of your samples, the default 50 is usually OK I wouldn't much lower than this otherwise you may start to see artefacts in your renders. Interp samples controls how these samples are merged together. Larger Interp samples merge them more resulting in a very smooth result but you can go too smooth and loose GI detail. By reducing the Interp samples you will start to see splotches. You may be able to go lower for simple scenes but for interior renders anything below the default 50/20 is going to lead to problems IMO.

So for the final rendering you can lower your Interp samples until you start to see splotches in your render but I wouldn't lower your HSph subdivs.
