I just learned that the Raytrace material has an option to pickup reflections for Mat and Object ID's, which seems perfect for creating an alpha for reflections. Is there any way to do this with Vray Material instead?

I think that there was a thread about it some time ago and you could play with vraydirt map to get alfa maps for reflection.

Found the thread and I was aware at some point, just totally forgot about that trick, thanks!
However, having the MatID affected by reflection would still be ideal so that it would be possible to isolate objects in the reflection as well for cases where you needed the more precise alpha, or just for things like colour shifting of selected objects etc.
