  • subscription : state sets

    Hello,

I am not sure if this questions is better to be asked to Autodesk or Chaosgroup, but I like you guys better

I was just wondering is there is a way to make the state sets work with - object > vray properties?

    thank you

    best regards

We were not part of the beta for this advantage pack, so I'm not sure if that got fixed eventually. The only thing I know is that the info is accessible from the 3ds Max SDK, the guys who worked on the scene states have been aware of the problem for a long time, but I don't know if they got round to fixing it.

If they can't/don't want to fix it, we may have to find other ways to store the object properties into the nodes, but it will be painful.

I'm told this should be working fine; I will need to test it tomorrow myself though.

So a further update - it appears this was fixed, but unfortunately the fix did not go into the official advantage pack installer. Hopefully it will be fine for future 3ds Max releases.

        Best regards,

Thank you for the research !

Too bad it hasn't been implemented to this subscription, I was really looking forward to this.
Well, we'll wait to hopefully have it into 2013.

            Thanks again,

Well, I just checked on a relatively simple test scene, and this worked fine - the matte/alpha contribution properties were correctly saved and restored with the scene states. So not sure what's going on in your case - can you post a scene here with some more specific reproduction steps?

              Best regards,
              Vlado

i just checked it again...i only created 2 objects (plane and teapot), go to state sets, make a new state and go on record. now i turned on matte object in the vray properties (and set alpha contribution to -1) and stop recording. so when i switch from this state back to normal scene state nothing was stores and no node properties is changing like when i change something in the object properties dialog....using max2012, sp2, advantage package and vray 2.10.01

You are right, this does not work, so we can only hope for a fix in a future release.

                  Best regards,

Honestly, I would have been surprised if those things worked out of the box.

we should have a look into that...http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/sc...x-render-layer
vray properties are working perfectly, render setting were stored in separatly render presets, all is working just fine on a quick test...

For my part I will stick with RPManager for a while! It is the only pass system that I know that is working flawlessly in production even with vray.

I've heard a lot about RPManager but never tried it.
I guess I am gonna looks closer to that.

                            Thanks for the hint.

Because Vray Object Properties are stored and accessed from the standard Object Properties User-Defined Properties, and State Sets doesn't track changes to it, they aren't tracked. Sounds like a good user voice entry to track the User-Defined Properties. You can manually get/set the properties using maxscript, the Node User-Defined Properties, and scripted state sets.
