  • fine architectural mesh

Anyone have any tips on how to create a very fine architectural mesh material - like the type that often surrounds fire escape staircases. It is a very 'transparent' material, but I don't want it to look like shiny glass. I thought about using a fine grid mesh bitmap in the refract slot, but I fear this would take an age to render.

It would probably take much longer when using a refraction or opacity map, so try the mesh-building method, and use a high AA value. Any other ideas?

i used a standard mat + opacity map for this one day arch.comp.

the scaling of the mesh is too big, but i was in a hurry and the client cared about other things...

the shadow casted on the water below looked quite nice...

btw: the free "blinds" script turned out very usefull, because the client wanted to experiment with the settings (up, down, angle, etc..)
