  • ice flakes

Here is my problem. The shot calls for someone to pull a plastic soft drink bottle out of a cooler. the camera modes in super closeup on the bottle to follow a drop of water moving across the surface of it. On the bottle i want to create flakes of ice like you might find when pulling a bottle out of an ice cooler. but i cant seem to figure out the technique. Any ideas?

I would use particles of instanced geometry with particle flow, you can use a material to attract in a "position object" to control the placement.

problem with particles is that it will intersect the glass. im finding i have to take a copy of the bottle with a tiny push modifyer on it to boolean the flakes to keep them from intersecting

there is some kind of explosion modifier plugin that takes ur mesh and blows it apart into lil bits.

might be something that could work for u.

it was mentioned on this forum somewhere in the image uploads. some guy blew his record player from the early 1900's apart with it to make chaotic surreal art. do a search or dig around, just might be your ticket.
