  • Lighting changing at every render?

Hi, I'm new to the boards, so please forgive me if this has been asked and answered already. I looked and couldn't find the answer.

Anyway, I have a scene I started lighting today, so I have to do a LOT of test renders to check shading, color, etc. And I started noticing that every time I render, I get different lighting going on. I stopped messing around with the parameters of ANYTHING in my scene, and rendered a few more times. The lighting is still different EVERY time I render, even though I'm not changing anything. Does anyone know if I'm missing something here?

Just for your information, I have no textures on anything yet, I have no special lighting, no GI, no Caustics, nothing special. Just models and about 6 lights. I ticked the override max's GI, and Reflect/Refract box's too. Oh yeah, and nothing is animated either.

I'm completely stumped here, otherwise I wouldn't clog your boards with my noob nonsense. If in fact it is noob nonsense... Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, I removed VRay from the current renders, put on the default scanline, then put VRay back on, and it works now.

And, suurland, I really appreciate you jumping to conclusions and accusing me, rather than answering a pretty simple question. That really helped a lot. I don't think I could have fixed my problem without you.

I didn't jump to any conclusion.. I just "described" the two most common scenarios.

SUURLAND : I have had personaly used a "WAREZ" copy of VRay before buying it... It is just for the secret services of your sureland...

ReplicA : I m not sure this is the same problme you're facing but I have had the same problem in one of my scene : each time I was adding a light or an object, the result was very diferent from the last one.

sorry the images are missing for now since my web server is down but here is a tread where I have try to explain my problem : http://www.chaoticdimension.com/foru...456&highlight=

            Mmhmmm...

n6, I couldn't see any of the pics on that thread. My problem was similar to your description though. Like I said, I returned the renderer to the default, then back to VRay, and that ALMOST did the trick. I tossed my light rig, which was only about 6 lights with minimal tweaking so no big loss, saved it, and restarted my computer. When I came back, I was good to go.
I guess it's just one of those things computers are infamous for. One minute they work, the next...

id have to agree with suurland here and defend him. two of the reasons for this problem are a: having a normal copy and soething goes wrong with the authorisation code. or b: having a bad copy of it. his first responce was to check the authorisation.

Well, it looks like what I did was a bit of a temporary fix. It started doing the same thing again today. But after a bit of tweaking, I THINK I've found the problem (in MY case anyway). In order to get slightly faster renders while I was checking the lighting, I turned 2 lights from ray cast, to shadowmap. I noticed the problem went away, but when I turned those lights back to ray cast, the problem came back. So I guess there's something going on in my MAX install, maybe?

Anyway, changing the light to something other than ray trace seems to fix the problem. For anyone else going through this, I'm not sure. But give it a try, it might work!

When you say raytrace, do you mean raytrace or vray shadows? VRay does not support raytrace shadows.

Yeah, I mean raytraced shadows. I didn't see that they weren't supported in the help file. I guess I just missed it when I skimmed it looking for possible causes.

Thanks, though. Now I really know that it wasn't a bug, or a MAX install issue. Thanks a lot, RErender!

vray shadows are approximately 1782.54 times faster than raytraced shadows hehe. approximately

Wow, that's a whole lotta faster! The scene I'm working on is only my third attempt at this kind of thing, so my lighting is not all that hot. It's not bad, but I'm sure most people can do better. I'm really liking the vray lights so far. There's a few issues with them that I'd rather not have, but I'm still learning, and having a lot of fun doing it! I love VRay!

This Don Quishot aproach to warez on this and other boards is realy irritating me. Why this cheap seriousness of abstract moral. People who use warez dont make monye. they are joyriding on no ones expence. (Not yours anyway) They dont take your job and they won´t by the software. even if there wasn´t any warez to get.

Every time I see someone one this board whith a flickering light question, I realy feel sorry fore him, because I know he is going to get the evil eye from the selfdubbed 3d police. And sure, By some questions asked on this board you can easily sniff it´s Warez. But do we have to bark every time?
