  • How to render to texture maps bigger than 8K ???

    Hi guys,

    currently having a big problem..

we need to render to texture a map which exceeds 8K resolution.....actually we need to render to texture a 30K map.

Any clues how to do that?
Max only allows 8K the biggest texture.

Thank you very much for any hints and tips.

    Best Regards
    Martin

^ animation over terrain, big render?

cut the map up in photoshop into less than 8k but evenly sized sectors. make a plane in max with the full map (low res) applied to it at the correct scale over the top of your main object. cut this object up into the same evenly sized sectors as the map, uv to fit and apply the material for each sector to it. take your object, cut it up, and take the mapping from the plane underneath it.
in photoshop you can still work on the fullres 30k+ map and save out sectors that you've updated as needed.

You can do this with unwrapped maps and other objects pretty easily too.

I'd be interested to know if you manage to use the tiled multi res exr option. Never used it myself but it looks interesting.

have you tried using an 8K+ texture?

this was removed when max went 64-bit.

20k - 30k maps work fine. help's if you use 3dsmax proxy textures for viewports though.
