  • How To Use Render Elements In VRay

    Hi,

I don't know why this is not working, but I am trying to get the object id of a model to render out of vray. I have the vrayobjectid render element setup to render out to rlp format. I am not using the vray vfb, because I need to render out a whole image sequence like this, and it apparently does not write out files to disk if I am using it. But when I import the rlp file into After Effects, there is no id present in the image. What am I doing wrong?

    thx

did you assign an Object ID in the object properties?

Yes, a 1. I also tried exr format and saving directly from vray vfb.

Is the pass showing up properly in the VFB?

It is. I can see it in the drop list of the vray vfb. Somehow I do not think the extra info is getting saved into the image file though.

I even tried using the scanline renderer. According to everything I read, just saving out to the rpf file format and checking what channels to save should work, but After Effects is not seeing it. Need a good step by step tutorial.

Which version of After FX are you using?

Does it have to be rpf?

If you use the vfb, turn on "save separate channels" to get render elements out separately. Otherwise it'll try to save your elements in your exr or vrimg file. If you turn off the vray vfb, it'll write out elements to separate sequences by default also.

I second joconnell, but it sounds to me like you need it in RPF. If you don't need it in RPF there are much better solutions.

The render elements don't go into the RPF/RLA files. Instead, you must specify that you want an ObjectID channel in the RPF/RLA output settings.

                    Best regards,

Thank you all I think I have it sorted out now. I'm a bit rusty at using render elements it seems
