  • Manipulatable Clipping Planes?

    Dear all,

I would like to ask you if anybody knows a way how to create camera clipping planes that are not orthogonal / perpendicular to the camera perspective but which could be distorted in a way that you can clip objects diagonally. Means near and far clipping planes could be parallel, but they should be diagonal in a way from the perspective view.
Is that possible? I would like to view an object half from the side and clip something of his front to view into the interior. I don't want to slice the object or separate the geometry.

Thank you much for your help.

Vlado did a sneaky trick using the vray distance tex map in the opacity channel and made some custom objects as the objects to use in the distance tex map. There's an inside colour and outside colour so you could make a box for your clipping plane, choose it as your object in the distance tex map and stick that distance tex into every objects in your scene. Might not be perfect but it's a start!

Here's a wee example, I think vlado might have used a shell mod too?

Thank you much, I tried this out and it works, but perfect would be if the light wouldn't leak through the opacity, but would be contained in the object and vice versa. I think this is not achievable, even if I make the box invisible to camera, then it still casts a shadow to the clipped object that is not wanted. But thank you for the hint anyway.

Scalpel max is probably your best bet although it's a commercial plugin :/
