  • 16 bit image out puts

    Does max support..16 bit image outputs??
    like I can save as a Cin…or a tif…@ 16 bit but when I open them they all …over bright. and uses less…

    How do I fix that …

    any one out there.. doing it ..in the 16 …

    Be neat to kick out a RAW file..

    you can save 48bit png and import it into photoshop...works fine!

      It depends on the frame buffer from MAX. if you are using MAX 5 or above you can save high dynamic range images via TIFF format. Chekc out the output options. I don't think this is depended on Vray unless Vray uses their own frame buffer which they will soon. When they do, I would think that high bitrate and exponential bitrates would be available, same as standard max.

        The 3dsmax frame buffer (which VRay currently uses) supports 16 bits per channel; you can export to a 48-bit .png for example...

          yes, png works fine.
          Other formats we use in 16-Bit are sgi, and the rla-rpf twins. None of them are of any use in Photoshop, though. But u can't do any of the cool stuff in photoshop while in 16 bit mode, anyway. (haven't tried 8.0 yet)
          Film Gimp (alias Cinepaint) on the other hand eats them all

            Keep in mind, that true 16 bit was not really supported in photoshop until version 8 which just came out. Photogenics is a good all around HDR image editor.
