  • vray toon as a pass ?

Hi just wondering if theres a Vray toon pass I'm missing ? with out having to setup the scene with different materials ?

I've added the vray toon effects, but i really like it as a separate pass so I can fine tune in post ?

    cheers

It will go into the atmospherics render element if the line color is different from black. However there is no way to turn it off from the rgb element.

    Best regards,

If the line is black ? is there anyway to keep that ?
Looking at my atmospheric pass and its pure black.

That's what black on black generally looks like Which is why I said it will work if the line color something other than black. Perhaps we need an option for the default color of the atmosphere element... or another element for atmospheric transparency which is planned anyways.

        Best regards,

well if you set your toon color to white, then all your render passes will have the toon as black, except the atmosphere/main rgb which will be full white, but you can re-comp your beauty and just invert the atmosphere to be black, which will give you same result as you want except allow you to control the line some more.

Thanks Dmitry and Valdo yes inverting seems to be the way.

Is there still no way to render passes without rendering the beauty pass in 3dsmax ? Maybe I'll look in to state sets again, but last time it corrupted my scene.
I'd love to right click a render element and render.

Also I noticed theres no ambient occlusion pass ? I was going to use Ambient light and an OC pass.
I've tried the vray dirt but its time consuming to setup.

            cheers

To do a seperate ao pass? You can just add a vray extra tex element, drag the dirt into it & change the radius. render as usual, ao comes out as a seperate pass.

Thanks Cubiclegangsta, Just what I needed.

The only problem is the toon effect is coming out on the Ambient Occlusion pass.
