  • AA DMC sampler per object

    Heya

Soo, I was just wondering if something like that exist and I was just blind my entire life...

Is there a way to set a custom adaptive DMC AA for different models so if if they need better sampling they will get it ?

    Thanks, bye.

at the moment, i think youre out of luck!

ive been after more localised sampling control for ages.. specifically to crank up the aa on distant trees etc.

my idea was to be able to use a screen mapped greyscale map (zdepth/falloff/mask) to vary the noise threshold. this would be a very powerful feature.

had terrible problems with having to massively oversample foreground elements (moblur /shadows etc) just to get the horizon shimmer free.. cant imagine how much faster my renders would be if we had this level of control.

seems to me it wouldnt be terribly hard to implement in a basic way, and then i could play with it!!! go ooooon Chaos..

You are right that it is not too hard and we will implement it.

Yup chaos team is epic. Its official.

Cant w8 for 1st nightlies with it!

Im guesssing it will be in vrayproporties on per-object basis ? or maybe an option to do material control too? :>

hehe you can have your per-object control as long as i can have my distance or screen mapped control! maybe we can come up with a way that makes both easy.

trouble for me with simple per-object control is that if you camera is moving, distant objects (which need high settings) can become foreground objects, and vice versa.

and for you, with a screen-mapped grayscale map, youd have to pre-render (i guess) a mask for the objects to control their sampling, which is a total pita. .

so.. how can we combine both requests into a single new feature without asking Chaos to do anything too major....?

or.. maybe doing both features isnt much harder than doing one..? a noise threshold multiplier in the vray object properties, aaaand, a map slot next to the noise threshold in the vray system settings...?

I think a simple "distance from camera" tool would fix it. U set a min max distance and a sampling for each number and here u go, u dont even need to paint ur grayscale maps. And I get my perobject settigns =D

Like a gradient where u can put points, they falue and how far from each other...

yes my original idea was simply to ask for a distance from camera control.. but then i started to think about increasing flexibility by being able to use a map. you really would have -total- control over sampling in that case.

however the more i think about it, a per-object multiplier and a "multiply by camera env. range" or something, could cover most scenarios.

Where can we get the nightly builds, or is it only for beta testers?
                  Kind Regards,

                    Heya

Just wanted to ask 3 things...

                    1. Will it work for each AA sampler engine? Fixed/DMC sub/DMC ADA?
                    2. Will a cross engine AA work? so for example Fix + DMC SUB ? etc?
                    3. Any ETA for nightlies?
                    Thanks bye.

Only for the adaptive DMC sampler - it is the only one that can take unlimited varying number of samples in different pixels.

                      2. Will a cross engine AA work? so for example Fix + DMC SUB ? etc?
No. However you could get fixed sampling simply by setting the min/max subdivs for an object to the same value.

                      3. Any ETA for nightlies?
Right after we release the spring service packs.

                      Best regards,
                      Vlado
