    I think if my memory serves me right, there was a solution for rendering part of a scene that is not in view of the camera. I have a building that is camera matched to a photo however the top of the building is cut off in the render because the photo was merged from two photos. I don't want to move the camera as it will alter the perspective.

    I remember a script or something that would allow you to render beyond the safe frame?

      But sadly that script does not work for Vray camera...

        Do it with a normal camera and use Lele's script to convert it to a vray camera?

              I think this is a very useful script by Yane Markulev. It is inspired by the script of Martin Breidt "overscan" http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/overscan and explained by Peter Guthrie.

                Now days I think you can just use the "zoom" parameter of the VRayPhysCam, I think that's what it does.

                  mmh... it adjusts your camera and render (you set the new output size and it change the focal lenght) so that your old image will be part of the new rendering without changing perspective, just like changing 'Canvas Size' in Photoshop, but in 3D. If you use the zoom factor the output size does not change...

                    If you turn the specify_fov on the Vray camera to on and then set your aperture width in the Render Scene Dialog to the same as your film_gate the overscan script will work just fine.

                      really its just a nice simple calculation, which I can't take credit for.

                        And also, if it is just a vertical extension you need, you can just increase the height of your render, it has no effect on the camera.

                        And if you only want to extend one side you can use the camera vertical offset to give you a bit more space on the top only.
