  • combine vrmaps automatically

It seems like I remember reading that this was going to be a new feature in Vray 2.0, but I don't see it.

I want to be able to render out (through backburner) a bunch of individual vrmaps for an animation. Maybe every 30 frames or so. Then I'll combine them all together (like with imapviewer) into one large vrmap. That final vrmap would then be used to render all the final animation frames.

Is there a utility that will automatically combine multiple vrmaps into one vrmap? (imapviewer will only do one at a time)

sorry...kind of misstated. You can do multiple vrmaps with imapviewer, but there was some reason I abandoned that method 3 years ago. Maybe it was too slow?

Anyway...same questions. Did 2.0 introduce anything new in this area?

The irradiance map viewer can merge multiple maps from the command line. I never actually thought to make it merge multiple maps from the UI (by selecting a bunch of files in the Merge dialog), but this can be done if you find it useful.

There is an improvement where the irradiance map viewer can merge maps incrementally, discarding detail where it is not needed. In previous versions, when you merged maps, their samples were simply added together. In overlapping places this could produce too many samples which slowed the render down and took more memory.

      Best regards,

        Vlado,

        Thanks for the answer.

Yes, I think it would be very useful. Not sure...because it still may not be automated enough. I'll think on it and reply back.
