  • What is the difference between...

    ...the following Vray Material settings:

-Trace diffuse and glossy together on/off? I couldn´t make out any difference in render time or visual appearance, at least on my simple test scene (the usual sphere on a plane)

Can anyone shed some light onto this please?

yes if memory serves you can create fake specular using that method but that material will not be able to reflect anything else, keep that in mind.

          ´k, here´s a screenshot.

Judging by the Vray manual it´s some sort of optimization, but I can´t make out any differences in render time. What I´m more interested in is an answer to the question wether this sertting can generally be left enabled under all circumstances (raising the question why this option is still there) or if there are certain cases where this is prohibitive.

          Thx all,
