  • Hilight Glossy VS Refl Glossy

    Hi all

So in VRayMtl, whats the difference between Hilight glossy (greyd out by default) vs just below that, Refl Glossy? Somewhere I read a long time ago, that Hilight glossy is FASTER, because it's fake glossiness, whereas Refl Glossy is real, and that's why it's slower.

Is this correct? Is there a situation where you would use both of these? I thought that if Hilight glossy is enabled, then refl glossy doesnt have any effect?

    Please advice...
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Highlight glossy its specular its just a reflection off light sorces - u cant reflect environment, map or anything like that -there for its a lot quicker to calculate.
Reflection glossy - reflection of environment there fore a lot longer to calculate.

So hilight glossiness could be quite useful as it can give the impression of blurry reflections by blurring the highlights (reflections of lights) more quickly than using reflection glossiness.

However, unless you also give the material some Refl. Glossiness, you would end up with sharp true reflections but blurry highlight glossiness.

Is there a way to have the material give blurry highlight reflections, but without having to have the sharp reflections beneath?

Turn off "Trace reflections" in the options.
