  • VrayWireColor set to ignore glass?

    I was recently working on a project that was set up by someone else. The project had your typical set of render elements including VrayWireColor. Typically the VrayWireColor is greatly effected by glass in a scene but this scene was different. It is like the glass had no effect on the VrayWireColor pass. All of the wire colors behind the glass displayed as though the glass was not there.

    So... how did they do this? I have not been able to figure it out.

    Make sure 'affect channels' is set to 'all channels' for refraction of your glass and change the wire colour of your glass to black. Should do the trick

      Nope. That tick box works for matte passes, but not for the wire color pass. Unless I am doing something wrong. Please see attached image.

        Sorry, I was sure that would work but I'll post a test scene when I'm back in the office on Monday if no one else has sorted it by then.

          Id second the request for ignore refraction. I use the wire color for quick RGB mattes and it would be nice to not have to set up the pass another way. Ill put it in the wishlist if that helps .

                Interesting.

                When I open your file and render it the matte behaves as it did for you. If I create a new piece of geometry and apple your material then the matte does not work.

                We are still on Max2011 and Vray 2.10.01 so maybe it is a bug in either Max or the older version of Vray that we are using. We are going to move to Max2012 next week and will install the latest Vray then. Hopefully will correctthe problem.

                  Strange, are you setting the wire colour of the glass to black and making sure it is not set to 'by layer'?

                    That is what I missed. I did not make the wire color black. Awesome and many thanks.

                    ...so, why dos it work when the Wirecolor is black? Are black wires simply ignored by the Wirecolor Matte?

                      Ok, I see what is happening. Normally the wire color is added, overlayed, or something. When you make the wire black the overlay does not effect the wire colors of the other geometry as much.

                      You can see the line through the pink bock on the left. There is a slight variation in color.

                        Yes wire colour is additive so adding RGB 0,0,0 has no effect on the colour of the objects behind the glass. The black line is caused by objects behind the glass being offset slightly due to the refraction effect of the glass. The effect would be more pronounced if your glass was thicker or instead of using a flat sheet of glass you had used a lens.
