Been thinking.... shouldn't it be possible to represent most of the settings in the "Diffuse and sub-surface scattering layers" rollout with something very similar to a gradient ramp?

    What would this gradient do?

I'm just having a super difficult time trying to figure out how to get a predictable result while I'm tweaking things, and was thinking it could be a better way of visualizing what the material is doing with light at different depths from the surface. But I guess this would make a little more sense for the MentalRay Fast Skin material than it would for VRay SSS2. I just need to scour the net for tuts, I guess.

Well if you only want it for visualization purposes, then it can be done - in fact, I already coded something similar to tell me what's going on inside the material for other purposes. It needs to be made more user-friendly though.
