  • z-depth element

    Hi,

I am trying to render z-depth element so that center object is in focus and foreground and background is out of focus. How should I set up the zdepthmin and max values? I am getting the result that backgroud is out of focus and foreground and center is in focus.

Try to use camera environment range setting or clipping setting to know which value is good.

But is it possible to get z-depth ranging from black to white and back to black. It would be easy if z-depth had min center and max value. Is it possible to get with min and max value. Now I get z-depth from black to white or white to black.

It depends on what filter you're trying to use your Zdepth with - most actual depth of field filters expect a ramp from one colour to another and allow you to pick where along the gradient is your sharp area - from that point forwards and backwards it'll start getting gradually softer.

If you're using something like a compound blur where the strength is controller by black to white values then your best bet might be to make a uvwmap over your entire scene and put a custo white / black / white gradient in to it, or use the falloff map set to distance blend and have both ends of the mix curve flat with a peak in the middle.

Do this in post, use Gradient-Map adjustment layer (PS) or any Curve tool in software of choice to remap your gradient.
