  • DR List Manager

    Hi there,

I'm searching a way of editing the DR List of nodes (Production Render as well as the RT Render).
I wanted to know if there is a tool or anything else that could make the editing of this list easier.

We have more than 50 nodes here to manage, and it would have been really useful to have a tool that could let us enter a start/end range of ip and which and them automatically if it pings.

Of course it's main purpose would be initially used when you configure a new workstation, after that, the nodes are remembered.

    Thanks a lot,

    Stan

    Easiest is to use Excel.
And if your IT manager use Spiceworks, he/she can just port it as a CSV, and you format it out.

I did this for our company. It's just a text file that I rewrite everytime someone "applies" to use DR, it writes who is using the machine to a file that the script tracks so you can tell who's DRing with what machine.

        Looks great,

Any chance you could make this public ? or trip down the script to the core functions and make it public ?

Hey Colin, still no news about this DR Manager script?

We are still struggling here to be able to distribute the nodes efficiently across the team members.

          Thanks

V-Ray 2.3 builds allow you to specify the same pool of machines for every user, but limit the number of nodes that are actually used.

            Best regards,

Ah haaa, and could you send a screen of how this is looking out?
So we could re-assign DR when a render is already started? On the fly?

              Thanks

In the DR settings, there is an option to limit the number of DR servers used (towards the bottom of the dialog).

Well, this is not quite possible, but the idea is this. If you have f.e. 10 machines, you can list them in the DR servers list for each artist. Then, each artist can say that they only want to use 3 out of these 10 machines. V-Ray will automatically pick up the first three machines that are not already busy with another DR render. If there are f.e. only 2 available machines, but one of the rest finishes a previous DR process, it will automatically attempt to join the current one.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

Hey, this option is great, I don't know why I never saw it before!

I haven't tried locally, but with backburner, it doesn't work, each server is still picking all the spawners up.
Is there something to do to make it work with BB or is it something I'm doing wrong?

                  Thanks Vlado

                    Hi Stan,

We managed to reproduce this here and have added it to our tracking system.
The "Max Servers (0-all)" value is not saved in the scene, so when sending the scene to Backburner there is no information about this setting.

Thanks tashko.zashev, good to know it will sometime be fixed!

                        Hey Colin,

yeah sure, I would love to try it out.

In the meantime, I quickly scripted a tool that let us manage quickly what spawners we are using based on the ram.

It's pretty straight forward but if you want it, let me know.

Thanks Colin, I would appreciate if you could send me your tool!

It would be great that Vray could develop something that could let us manage the nodes, nowadays, DR is commonly used by everyone and distribute it efficiently is not always easy.
