  • EXIF from point and shoot camera? Use it? Ignore it?

Does anyone use any of the EXIF information from point and shoot cameras?

I need to do a camera match for the current project I am working on. The photo I need to match was shot with a Canon Powershot Elph. The focal length listed in the EXIF information is 6mm.

So now I am scratching my head... I can easily enough punch 6mm into the focal length, but what is the correct number to punch in for the film gate?

    Thanks for any help.

I would normally look up the spec's on the camera at dpreview.com

    http://www.dpreview.com/products/canon/cameras

you should be able to find all the info you need there.

      Thanks.

I was able to get the sensor info from that website. The I plugged the info into this website.
      http://www.digified.net/focallength/

I am assuming I would leave the film gate set to 35mm?

        its either,

change the film gate and leave it at 6mm.

or leave the film gate and put in the 35mm equivalent of the 6mm focal length
