  • Vray materials form Max to Maya

    Hiya
I'm building and texturing a model in 3DS Max - can I transfer my Vray material libray to Maya successfully and if so what is the best way?
    Cheers

Apply the desired material to a object in the scene. Assign V-Ray RT as a Active shade renderer and open its settings. From there export .vrscene file (http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/rt10...max.htm#export).
In Maya: Create>V-Ray>Import V-Ray material from file.
After you choose the .vrscene file, there should be a list of the materials in the scene select the desired one and select Import.
You may need to tweak the material a little (set the right paths to the textures in example) to get the exact same appearance.

Wow. I had no idea this was possible. Does this work the other direction too? Does it work with any procedurals maps?

To transfer shaders the other way around to Max may be tricky and its not officially supported by V-Ray.
Here you can find some discussions on the subject:

Unfortunately, not all procedural shaders can be exported.
