  • creating multiple clones with single clicks (like object painting)

this has probably already been discussed but I searched could not find it. Is there a way to clone objects without opening a dialogue box for each clone, similar to copy in autocad, where you select the object to copy, then can clone it around multiple times with a single click for each clone's location. It would be similar to object painting but without all of the setup that object painting requires.

you can do something similar, placing helper point at each location. then at the end replace all the points with the object that you want.

works well with the soulburn scripts pack.

I agree that could work, but it still seems like a work around, I was hoping there was a script or native command somewhere for a simple form of cloning that does not open a dialogue for every clone. Similar to how copy works in autocad but perhaps with the option of choosing copy, instance or reference at the start, then just click anywhere you want to clone to appear. To be honest given how many releases of Max there have been, and how advanced the tool set is now, I can't believe this hasn't been in place already for ages, creating many copies of an object is quite a pain in the ass using the native clone command.

yep, watched that, and I like object paint and use it regularly, it just takes more setup than what I had in mind in that you need to open the dialogue, pick an object to paint on, change the transform setting from what I usually use for trees, then I find the painting process, whether it's max's freeform paint, or soulburns - is a little sluggish. I was hoping for something simpler and faster, but I guess it'll do for now. cheers.

placeing points, glue and then replacing with the object you want after is a much quicker than using an object paint (viewport speed).

though i use this method a lot less now that I'm using forestpro. but if your placing trees at exact locations then it works well.
