But you see nothing wrong with the front lit render of the 100% translucent material? That it picks up almost nothing of the light coming from the front, and instead showing the unlit backside?
There is nothing wrong on the math side, but at the same time I don't think there actually exists a material in nature with these properties.
Has anyone who uses the Evermtion trees in their pipe line had to recreate the default leaf textures to 2 sided since some of their libraries are using older transluscent method in Vray texture. When I place these trees in my scene the any leaf not in direct sunlight renders dark. Just wonder if this is the reason.

No actually. Just good old naked 2sided Mat. Just a lot more translucent and a lot more specular than I would otherwise have used. Not as scientific as Vlado's approach but inspired from it. It helps if you can get decent textures.
Well, I could, but it would bear very little relation to this since the textures dictate the diffuse colour of back and front materials, the reflectivity, the glossiness, the opacity (shape of the leaves) and the translucency, i.e. pretty much everything. Remove the textures and you get a clay render, pretty much.
That makes sense, can I ask one last thing and that is if you use two different diffuse textures for that render? One for the back and a different one for the front side of the leaf?
Thanks. This is the same texture but made more saturated, lighter and yellower in a color correction node. The back material has not reflection either.
Here it is. Like I said, not as scientific as Vlado's by any means, but it works for my purpose.
Your last render is bang on Bertrand. I can't see it needing to be more realistic than that Now it would just be a matter of having a wide set of maps so each leaf could have more variation - that's another thing that kills realism in a lot of vegetation.
That said, I think it might be easier (for print anyway) to get an Object ID pass of all the leaves and just vary them up in post with a quick pass.
